NINGBO PORT
Natural Conditions:
Wind: Wind always from the northwest, with the frequency of 13.4%; and strong wind from the northeast with the max. velocity of 38m/s and from the north with the max. velocity of 37m/s. Number of average days of strong breeze is 32, of moderate gale is 15, of fresh gale is 6.
Rainfall: Annual average rainfall is about 1411mm. Monthly max. rainfall is 243mm, daily max. is 145mm. Number of annual average rainy days is 158, and 11 days for the rainfall not less than 25mm. Pulm rain season is from May to June, and typhoon will come during July to October. The rainfall in September is about 25% of the whole year, and there is little rainfall in winter.
Temperature: Annual average temperature is 16.3℃. Extreme max. temperature could be 39.4℃, and extreme min. temperature could be -10℃. The monthly max. temperature is 28.1℃ (in July), and the monthly min. is 4.3℃ (in January).
Ice: No freezing in winter.
Tide: Regular semi-diurnal tides. The annual average highest tide level and lowest tide level , for Ningbo Port area are 3.1m and 1.43m; for Zhenhai Port area are 2.19m and 1.16m; for Beilun Port area are 2.9m and 1.12m. The annual average tidal range for Ningbo Port area is 1.74m, for Zhenhai Port area is 1.71m; for Beilun Port area is 1.82m.
Tidal Current: Beilun Port area is always reversing current, and the designed flow velocity of 200000-ton ore terminal is: 1.5m/s when tide rises, and 2.0m/s when tide tide falls.

 

Navigation-supporting Information:

Channel: There are two channels to entry the port. The north channel is from the port to Yangtze River Estuary via Yong River estuary, Qili Island and Daji Mountain, nabigable for 25000 DWT vessels. The south channel is from the entrance of Xiazhi Gate of Zhoushan Islands to Beilun port area via Luotou channel and Jintang channel. Depth of the south channel is more than 20m except for the 3km of channel out of Xizhi gate, which is only 17.6m deep. 15000 DWT vessels can free access to the port. There are 5 light beacons and 4 lighthouses. These 4 lighthouses are set as follows:
- Tangnao Mountain (30°20′1″N/120°58′01·2″E)
- Yuxingnao (30°20′49·1″N/121°51′32·4″E)
- Taiping Mountain (30°04′59·5″N/121°49′16·1″E)
- Qili Island (30°00′02·1″N/121°45′34·3″E)
